Remy Cabella continues his slow but steady rehabilitation on the other side of the Channel.

The Newcastle midfielder recovering from injury and poor initial form to become a key player for Marseille.

This weekend saw Remy Cabella score his fourth goal of the season and you can see the sweet strike on the video footage below (a despairing challenge from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa failing to prevent the goal….

The 1-1 draw at Lyon sees Marseilles lying four points off the top four and in with a possible chance of returning to Champions League football.

The position of Remy Cabella remains a strange one though, as it was widely reported that the midfielder was on a similar deal to that of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (and Davide Santon), whereby playing a certain number of matches would trigger a permanent deal.

Mapou’s sale to AS Roma went through last January after a first half of the season on loan, yet despite making 25 appearances for the Ligue 1 club there is no sign of Remy Cabella being confirmed as a Marseille player.

Since being moved into the middle behind the striker(s), Remy Cabella has looked a much better player for Marseille and you can only wonder if after having a steep learning curve in his first season in England, the French international could have played a role in improving what we have seen from Newcastle this season so far.
