Steve McClaren has revealed that Papiss Cisse is expected to be out for between six and eight weeks after his groin operation, meaning March would be the earliest we could see the Senegal striker back in action.

However, the Head Coach confirms that both Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey will be in the squad to face West Ham, though he hasn’t said whether they will make the first eleven.

More surprisingly, McClaren has also stated that Florian Thauvin will be in the matchday squad tomorrow, despite widespread rumours that he was heading off to Marseille on loan.

Some of Steve McClaren’s quotes from Friday’s press conference:

“We’ve got to start turning the corner and following up one good result with another one.

“Both players (Saivet and Shelvey) are in the squad and both have a chance (of making their debuts).”

“They have trained a couple of days and we knew their quality. It’s about them bedding in and getting used to the team – the board have done a terrific job to bring in the two players.”

“He (Papiss Cisse) will be out of action for 6 to 8 weeks, possibly less.

“West Ham are solid, with good balance and have four or five attackers who can impact a game. That’s why they are doing well.

“I admire and respect Slaven Bilic a lot. He came into a difficult job at a difficult time but has settled straight away.”
