Seydou Doumbia arrived in Newcastle on Saturday with his agent according to reports on Sunday morning.

Foot Mercato say that their information is that after successful talks yesterday, the 28 year old will have his medical today.

AS Roma and Newcastle have agreed a loan until the end of the season with an option to buy, according to the French media organisation.

Seydou Doumbia is a player who has been linked a number of times previously with Newcastle, with claims of reported interest going back over two years.

The Ivory Coast forward scored 63 goals in 83 league games for CSKA Moscow before AS Roma bought him for around £11m last January.

The striker didn’t settle in Italy and has spent the last few months back on loan at CSKA Moscow, where he scored 11 goals in 17 starts, including six goals in the Champions League.

Marseille have tried to do a deal for Seydou Doumbia but in their financial position can’t even afford to finance a loan deal and meet the player’s wage demands, whilst the player is also said to have turned down both Fenerbahce and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

Most Newcastle fans would agree that a striker was the most essential this window and with the £28m or so spent so far, initial loan deals were the most likely route for any other arrivals.
