Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong is comfortably top of the goal scoring charts in League One, the Geordie striker today making it 17 goals in 24 starts for Coventry in his loan spell so far.
Despite missing a number of games on England duty this season, the 18 year old is clear of his nearest challengers; Sam Winnall of Barnsley (15) and Billy Sharp (Sheffield United)
Saturday saw Coventry at home to mid-table Scunthorpe but despite Adam Armstrong’s latest strike, the Sky Blues went down to a 2-1 defeat.
Trailing from the ninth minute, Coventry went two down just after the hour mark.
With five minutes left Adam Armstrong pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but the home side failed to add to that, having Romain Vincelot sent off in the final stages.
Fellow Newcastle loan player Gael Bigirimana had a poor first half and was dragged off at half-time, while former United defender Peter Ramage was little better in the Coventry back four.
Despite this latest setback, Coventry are still fifth and six points clear of those teams trying to break into the play-off positions.
As for Adam Armstrong, he has a maximum 17 more League One matches left to add to his 17 goals, plus play-off matches possibly on top of that.
