Newcastle United have held talks with the representatives of Andros Townsend as they look to push through a move, according to reports this morning.
The Chronicle say that their information is that talks have taken place this week, with Newcastle looking to add the Tottenham winger to the signings of Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey.
Thursday brought reports of Cheick Tiote agreeing a move to China in a deal that would help towards balancing the books, whilst there was also the shock, but understandable, talks of Florian Thauvin agreeing a loan return to Marseille – at least for the rest of this season.
Whilst Saivet and Shelvey will be expected to firm up the middle of the pitch and add some extra creativity and goals, there is still a desperate need for a player that can beat his man to add that extra to Newcastle’s game plan.
The Chronicle say that Andros Townsend has indicated he wants to go to Newcastle and has even stalled on interest from West Brom as he awaits to see if he gets a move to Tyneside.
A fee of £12m is the ball park figure mentioned and whilst Townsend continues to be excluded from the Premier League picture at White Hart Lane, he showed his fitness and form, at least at reserve team level, as he scored twice in a 4-3 defeat by Chelsea Under 21s at the start of this week.
It is now nine months since Andros Townsend started a Premier League match and for a player who turns 25 in July, he has only started 34 PL games in total in his career.
Remarkably he has though played 10 times for the full England side including four games in 2015, if ever there was a player who needs to get his club football career sorted out, it is Andros Townsend.
