Newcastle United are in talks with Tottenham for the transfer of Andros Townsend.

BBC Sport have today confirmed that Newcastle approached the London club on Friday.

The talks are at an early stage with United now made aware of the winger’s situation at Tottenham and Newcastle said to be ‘weighing up a bid’.

No doubt, asking about ‘availability’ is basically finding out how much roughly Tottenham are looking for and whether the player has any interest in moving to St James Park.

BBC Sport:

‘Newcastle and Tottenham are in talks, albeit at a very early stage over Andros Townsend.

Newcastle approached Spurs yesterday about his availability and are now weighing up a bid for permanent transfer.’

Tottenham legend Clive Allen had this to say about the potential move:

“Andros Townsend is the subject of some interest from Newcastle.

“He’s been frustrated with a lack of football this season, and it probably is the time for Andros to move on. But of course it all depends on the right fee.”
