Newcastle United have agreed a fee of around £5m for Henri Saivet according to reports on Monday lunchtime.

Sky Sports say that according to their information, Newcastle hope to unveil the player within the next 24 hours in advance of the Manchester United match at St James Park tomorrow night, after the clubs agreed the £5m deal earlier today.

Early this morning, it was The Times who revealed that Henri Saivet had flown into Newcastle Airport on Sunday night ahead of talks.

The Sky Sports man in the north east, Keith Downie, reports that the player will now be going through his medical before the deal is rubber stamped.

Elsewhere it was claimed that there might be a late move by Bournemouth to hijack the deal but nothing of substance on that front.

Meanwhile, L’Equipe have claimed that it is a five year deal that has been agreed, which presumably means a five and a half year contract running up to June 2021, when the player would be 30 years old.

This season has seen Henri Saivet move into the middle of midfield rather than playing out wide and he has scored two goals in 18 Ligue One games.

On Saturday Saivet played the full 90 minutes as Bordeaux won 1-0 at Montpellier to put them 12th in Ligue 1.

Henri Saivet has had a number of injury problems in the last 18 months, including problems with his ankle, hamstring, thigh muscle and knee. Last season he only managed seven starts in the league.

However, this season the midfielder has started 18 of the 20 Ligue 1 matches for Bordeaux.
