Gini Wijnaldum has been shortlisted alongside Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney for the PFA player of the month award for January.

The Newcastlle midfielder has thrived after being allowed to move into a more central position and started the month with an excellent personal and team performance against Arsenal. Petr Cech on top form to deny Wijnaldum on a number of occasions.

Not a great day against Watford for both the former PSV player and his Newcastle team-mates in the final match of the month.

However, excellent performances and goals against both West Ham and Manchester United saw Gini Wijnaldum prove yet again that he is the key man for Newcastle, with a total of nine goals already from midfield.

An ‘expert panel’ produces a shortlist of contenders. Fans are then able to vote for the player they think deserves the award. One voting fan will win the chance to meet and present the award to the PFA Player of the Month.
