Newcastle United have offered £10m for Jonjo Shelvey according to an exclusive on Monday morning.
The Telegraph claim that their information is that Newcastle have made the £10m offer to Swansea City in the hope of completing a quick deal for the midfielder.
Sunday night has seen Sky Sports report that they understood Newcastle United were already in talks with Swansea in advance of a bid for the England international.
This season, Jonjo Shelvey has epitomised the struggles of his club, scoring just the one goal as he has started 14 and came on as a sub in another two Premier League matches. Injured for a couple, Shelvey has also been left on the bench in two more.
New Swansea boss Alan Curtis has talked of problems with the player’s attitude when he isn’t selected and it looks clear that club and player are now going to part ways.
With news this morning that Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet had flown into Newcastle Airport on Sunday night ahead of agreeing a deal, Newcastle fans could shortly be looking at a whole new central midfield pairing.
Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback and Cheick Tiote have contributed almost nothing going forward this season and with Newcastle having the third worst goals conceded stats, there are clearly severe failings in protecting the back four as well.
With today being the tenth day of the transfer window, at last it looks as though the wheels are turning, though we wait to see how quickly things happen and just when there will be alternatives available to the current failing team.
