Club update on Alexandre Lacazette ‘bid’

This morning brought reports from L’Equipe claiming that Newcastle had made a verbal offer of around £19m for Alexandre Lacazette.

The story saying that two Newcastle United representatives had travelled to Lyon last week for talks but that while the French club were interested in that £19m ‘bid’ as a starting point, the player himself wasn’t interested in leaving the club mid-season and potentially harming his chances of appearing for France in the Euros finals this summer.

However, the Press Association are now reporting that their information from Newcastle United today is that while the club have a longstanding interest in Lacazette, no bid has been made as yet and the club are ‘msytified’ about this morning’s claims.

In 2013/14 Alexandre Lacazette scored 15 goals in Ligue 1, then 27 in 2014/15, while this season he hasn’t quite matched that form, a bit like his team overall.

Lacazette has scored six goals in 15 league games, plus another two in the Champions League, currently Lyon (last season’s runners-up) sit 9th in the table but are only six points off second place.

For information purposes only, the January transfer window opened on Saturday 2 January and closes at 11pm on Monday 1 February.
