Alan Shearer will be at St James Park on Tuesday night.

The legendary number nine covering Newcastle United against Manchester United for BBC Five Live.

Newcastle went out to Watford whilst Man Utd were lucky to sneak through to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Their win over Sheffield United was widely reported to be the most boring game of the round, at least in terms of those matches that were televised live. Shearer commenting that all that matters in the cup though is getting through to the next round…

Something of course that Newcastle fans have little experience of when it comes to the FA Cup under the rule of Mike Ashley.

However, when looking at the likely outcome of Tuesday night’s match, Alan Shearer thinks that despite four defeats in a row, ‘it wouldn’t surprise’ him if Newcastle beat Man Utd.

Here’s hoping.

Alan Shearer writing for Coral:

“One game which certainly wasn’t exciting to watch at the weekend was Manchester United’s home win against Sheffield United.

“Despite it being all dull and boring, ultimately, cup football is all about getting into the next round and they are there with that late goal.

“I’m at St James Park for BBC Five Live this week where I’ll be covering the Newcastle v Man United game.

“Newcastle coming into it after their 4th defeat in a row after losing to Watford in the Cup but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Newcastle beat Man United on Tuesday.”
