Alan Shearer’s instant post-match reaction was the same as any other Newcastle fan who watched today’s match.

Another game where Newcastle failed to score and whilst Steve McClaren has been over the top in terms of claiming United should have picked up more points in recent games, today at the Emirates they did actually create more clear chances than the league leaders.

If you look at the stats below, Newcastle had six shots on target to Arsenal’s three, whilst in overall shots, United had 15 to the Gunners’ 16.

Wijnaldum and Mitrovic in particular wasted glorious chances.

Possession was also evenly split which points to just how close the game was.

Alan Shearer clearly believes that somebody with a goalscoring pedigree needs to come in this month and in the next four weeks  we wait to see what Mike Ashley delivers…

Alan Shearer on his Twitter account:

“It’s very obvious what Newcastle need in this transfer window.  Played well today but missed good chances  AGAIN.”
