Toon Army Malaysia cry for Pavel Srnicek.
In 1996, many of us were engulfed by English Premier League fever.
EPL games were selectedly shown on Malaysian TV on Saturdays and we would glue our eyes on the TV , hoping for our favourite team to win, hence the boasting rights.
Many of my friends inadvertently followed Manchester United , Liverpool, Arsenal and some Leeds . Chelsea and Manchester City were never chosen. A friend asked,” Which you like ?”
It was a hard choice to make . Then one game was shown on TV.
That Liverpool-Newcastle game. I can’t get my eyes off that. Not at all.
It finished 4-3 to Liverpool but I fell in love with Newcastle ever since.
The goalkeeper that night, Pavel Srnicek.
Keegan’s Entertainers were never strong in the defence department , that is what made Pavel so important.
Thank you Pavel for the memories.
You are forever part of the team which made a young boy dare to dream.
Rest in peace, my first goalkeeper idol.
