Steve McClaren has sent his latest email out to Newcastle fans, 48 hours before the clash with Aston Villa.
We are all left to wonder just what the contents of this latest email would have been if Newcastle had lost to both Liverpool and Tottenham as expected.
Thankfully, we are all hoping that Saturday will make it a hat-trick of victories as United take on Aston Villa.
Whatever the identity of whoever writes Steve McClaren’s emails, let’s hope the ‘fantastic atmosphere’ of the last couple of weeks isn’t replaced once again by what went before that…
The Steve McClaren email to Newcastle fans
After two positive results over the last two weekends, we’ve had a different kind of week this week, visiting some of our younger fans at three of the region’s hospitals after training.
It is a very humbling experience taking the players into that environment, to see the reality of the suffering that so many children and their parents are going through and the amazing work of our NHS staff.
All of us connected to Newcastle United have a big role to play on and off the pitch and we must never lose sight of that.
The players brought smiles to the wards this week, just as they have done to the terraces and streets over the last couple of weekends, and they should be proud of their contributions on both fronts.
Three weeks ago, we know it was very different. We know how quickly things can change either way and the good feeling can slip through your fingers as quickly as it came.
On Saturday, we welcome Aston Villa to St. James’ Park and we know they have got the players in their squad to start their own positive change. It’s another big game and we have to be at our best.
It’s been a thrill to feel such a fantastic atmosphere around the city over the last couple of weeks and we’ll be doing everything to maintain that by aiming to deliver a performance you can be proud of once again.
See you on Saturday.
