Michael Owen has given his verdict on Newcastle United’s trip to the Hawthorns.

West Brom have failed to win since over six weeks ago when they defeated Arsenal 2-1 at home.

Owen believes that Newcastle will make it six games without a win for the Baggies but United to only take a point away.

That would leave us relying on Norwich failing to get anything at home to Aston Villa, if we hope to get out of the relegation zone this afternoon.

Michael Owen thinks Newcastle will be ‘deflated’ (pointing out the obvious just for a change..) after  the team he supports won with that late Cleverley header on Saturday.

West Brom have lost their last two games against Swansea and Bournemouth which shows that Newcastle could easily get a vital win if they can lift their game and show better finishing than against Everton.

However, the previous three West Brom matches featured draws at both Liverpool and West Ham, as well as home to Tottenham, showing they can be a tough nut to crack.

Only Stoke, Swansea and Villa have scored fewer goals than West Brom’s total of 17, so reasonable to assume that if Newcastle can manage a couple of goals then they could/should win, whilst just one goal would likely be enough for a draw.

After only one goal in over three hours of football at St James Park in the last two matches, have Newcastle got the goals in them to improve on that?

Michael Owen writing for BetVictor:

“This is the first time the Baggies have gone five PL games without a win under Tony Pulis, drawn three and lost two.

“They might have to again settle for a point against a Newcastle side who will feel deflated after Everton’s last gasp winner on Boxing Day.”
