The John Barnes prediction for Spurs v Newcastle

John Barnes says he was very surprised to see Newcastle beat Liverpool, especially considering the form the scousers took into the game last Sunday.

Barnes thinks the major factor was the reds being without their ‘cutting edge’ – Coutinho.

Even though he thinks Newcastle will have had a massive lift from that 2-0 win, John Barnes thinks it won’t matter at White Hart Lane, with Spurs in such good form this season.

He points out that they are unbeaten since the opening day and that not many teams go to White Hart Lane and win with Pochettino now in charge.

In their eight home PL matches, Spurs are indeed unbeaten but that does include four drawn games.

John Barnes predicts a 2-0 win with Harry Kane getting the two goals and the depth in the Tottenham squad is impressive, which was emphasised by numerous changes on Thursday night but still a 4-1 win over Monaco in the Europa League.

No excuse for Steve McClaren and his players who have had a full week to prepare and the Head Coach confirming that there are no new injuries to hamper him and his selection.

John Barnes writing for Titanbet:

“It was a surprise to see Liverpool follow up their impressive 6-1 Capital One Cup victory over Southampton with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday. It was just a bad day for everyone at Liverpool.

“Liverpool clearly missed Philippe Coutinho on Sunday, though. He is their most important player in terms of creativity… going forward they do lack that cutting edge without Coutinho.

“Spurs have been very impressive and are still unbeaten since the opening day of the season. Newcastle will be buoyed by their win over Liverpool, but not many teams go to White Hart Lane and win these days. 2-0 Spurs, Harry Kane with both goals.

“Tottenham 2-0 Newcastle.”
