Based on the last five matches, bit of a surprise to see Fabricio Coloccini feature in the top 20 of the Power Rankings.
The Power Rankings are a system developed by Sky Sports to reflect a player’s performance over the previous five weeks (of games) – each preceding week is worth fewer points.
This means that the Power Rankings reflect the most in-form players of the moment, with your most recent match the most important and then working backwards/down in terms of importance.
So with Newcastle’s last five matches (working backwards) being: Villa, Spurs, Liverpool, Palace and Leicester, it has led to the United Captain breaking into the top 20.
Scoring a goal against Villa in a low scoring draw, plus the two wins against Spurs and Liverpool, will have weighed heavily in Coloccini’s favour, as well as of course the central point being that his own personal form improved significantly in these matches.
The less said about Leicester and Palace the better…
