On Tuesday we posed the question: ‘Newcastle v Liverpool, would you play Fabricio Coloccini or Mike Williamson?’
As I said at the time…that is a question that a few years ago I would never have imagined that I’d have to ask.
Even a few months ago I would have amazed myself if I’d even had a passing thought of choosing Williamson, no matter how bad the Newcastle Captain had become.
However, with Mike Williamson recalled on Tuesday morning from his loan spell at Wolves, the question is out there.
The official NUFC club statement says that Jamaal Lascelles has a slight hamstring injury, so after bothering to recall Mike Williamson, it must now simply be left to a choice of Williamson or Coloccini to play alongside Mbemba.
On the one hand Coloccini is the man in possession of the shirt AND he is Captain, though Newcastle have just conceded eight goals in two games.
Mike Williamson has just played five games at Championship level and helped Wolves keep three clean sheets.
This is one poll where I really didn’t know who would win, or be seen as least worst…
As at happens the result couldn’t be more striking….thanks to all who voted.
‘I would drop Coloccini and play Williamson against Liverpool on Sunday’ – 89%
‘I would keep Coloccini in the team to face Liverpool on Sunday’ – 11%
I think separate to this question, it is patently obvious that most fans don’t think Coloccini is good enough to be in the team and certainly not as the captain. However, when the only choice is Williamson, I never guessed the reaction would be so overwhelming.
