At his Friday afternoon press conference, Steve McClaren has revealed that he will have eight players still missing for the Aston Villa game on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the Chronicle reported that one previously injured player was available now and in fact had been for the past six weeks.

The player in question being Emmanuel Riviere, although rather strangely he hasn’t appeared for the Uner 21s. Clubs in France are being linked with the player for a January loan/move, although the biggest sticking point appears to be the prospect of Newcastle having to pay most of his wages if they want to offload him, even temporarily.

Hamstring problems continue to be the biggest blight for Newcastle with no less than four players out with that injury.

The eight who will be unavailable for Aston Villa are:

Mike Williamson – Hamstring

Tim Krul – Cruciate Ligament

Jamaal Lascelles – Hamstring

Rolando Aarons – Ankle/Foot

Gabriel Obertan – Hamstring

Steven Taylor – Hamstring

Curtis Good – Hip

Massadio Haidara – Knee

However, Steve McClaren has confirmed that one player does return to his squad for Villa and that is Cheick Tiote.
