Sir Alex Ferguson was part of the five man panel who have selected Steve McClaren and Newcastle United for a special award.

The League Managers Association Performance of the Week panel, comprised of LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry.

They agreed that the Performance of the Week Award for the weekend just gone, should go to Steve McClaren and Newcastle United for the victory at White Hart lane.

The Newcastle manager/head coach, Steve McClaren, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

With Newcastle trailing to an Eric Dier first half goal, a much improved second half display from United saw substitutes Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez grab late goals and all three points for the team.

Steve McClaren of course first made his name when assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and this latest award is the second of the season, with the 6-2 win over Norwich also being credited as an LMA performance of the week.
