Rubin Okotie is the latest striker put in the frame for a January move to Newcastle United in January.

United are undoubtedly in need of extra firepower but it must be dubious as to whether they are really interested in this Austrian international.

Rubin Okotie was actually born in Pakistan and then was raised for some years in Barcelona, though he has spent most of his football career playing in Austria.

The forward has scored 18 goals in 36 starts for 1860 Munich but that is in the second tier of German football. However, Talksport claim that Newcastle have definite interest in the player, along with a number of others, including AZ Alkmaar.

I suppose on the plus side the signings of both Ayoze Perez and  Ivan Toney has shown Newcastle are willing to look at the lower leagues home and abroad.

At 28 years old he isn’t exactly the right age for an Ashley signing but it is ability rather than cash that is likely to be the problem, with Rubin Okotie only costing £100,000 when moving from Austria Vienna to Germany last summer.
