At his pre-Arsenal press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Steve McClaren confirmed that Rob Elliot had been sent home with a stomach bug.

With three days before the game at the Emirates, it remains to be seen if the keeper will be available.

The club have released a number of quotes from the Steve McClaren meeting with the press and you can read them below.

The Head Coach talking well about Pavel Srnicek and how much he will be missed.

McClaren also says that the transfer window is being addressed but in private.

He still insists that the performances have been there and if that level continues, then Newcastle will be alright.

Steve McClaren:

“We’re absolutely devastated to lose Pav. Our condolences go to his family and everybody who has been around him.

“I watched Pavel many times. He was a fantastic goalkeeper, a great character and a loyal servant to the club. He’ll be missed.

“Football is a terrific event, great theatre, but Pavel passing away at such a young age puts things into perspective.

“I’ve never been as frustrated for the players as I have over the last 3 games. They’ve given everything and didn’t deserve to lose.

“We’re just not getting the results but that has to change. With 19 games remaining, that has to be done quickly.

“We known the January window is coming up. Discussions are ongoing but we’ll do our business in private.

“The window is big for the media but it’s calm inside the club. When something happens, you’ll know.

“Arsenal have had injuries but they’ve maintained results. They are definitely favourites for the title but it’s only half-time.

“The performances have been there. If that continues, we’ll win games. We need to stick together and be strong.”
