Pochettino – Spurs face ‘Tough game against a very good Newcastle’

Mauricio Pochettino thinks that Spurs face a ‘tough game’ against a ‘very good’ Newcastle team.

Methinks he flatters to deceive…

Yes, as the Tottenham boss points out, it was a massive (and essential) win over Liverpool but now we come to the big test of whether the player will really ‘believe more than before’.

Pochettini thinks that Newcastle will be ‘very aggressive’ at White Hart Lane and clearly he watched the Liverpool match.

The preceding matches had seen United stand off the opposition, whereas against the scousers they were getting ‘right up them’…in a manner of speaking.

As Pochettino anticipates, Steve McClaren will surely be telling his players to do the same today and not let Spurs settle.

Last Sunday Newcastle picked up three yellow cards and some pundits reckoned one or two of them could have been red.

I think that would have been harsh but certainly the last thing we need is the likes of Jack Colback picking up an early booking today and then be under a real threat of a sending off and the team imploding. They don’t usually need any extra help to do that!

Mauricio Pochettino:

“We have a tough game, Newcastle are coming from a big victory against Liverpool last week and I think they believe more than before.

“That victory gave them more confidence and it’s because of that we expect a tough game against a very good side like Newcastle.

“Newcastle will come here very aggressive and try to win.

“We need to work hard, to have the same motivation and mentality, play to our philosophy and make sure we’re ready to compete.

“I always try to focus on our team and how we can improve and we have a very tough game ahead.”
