Paul Merson predicted that Newcastle would get turned over 4-0 by Liverpool last Sunday, hope he had a few quid on that…

This weekend the former Arsenal player has been casting his eye over local rivals Tottenham v Newcastle.

Merson says that the fact that after Liverpool, United have to so quickly face a Spurs side that are unbeaten since the first day of the season, sums up how ‘ruthless’ the Premier League can be.

However, Spurs have in fact only won six times in 15 matches this season, so they are very hard to beat but not making their very decent play count at times.

With more (eight) draws than any other Premier League club, including four at White Hart Lane, Newcastle could fancy getting something if they show the same spirit as against Liverpool.

Paul Merson describes last Sunday’s 2-0 win for Newcastle as ‘phenomenal’ but still goes for a 3-0 home win.

Let’s hope he is in as good a tipping form as last weekend.

Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:

“I know Liverpool were supposed to turn up against Newcastle and turn them over, the same as people expect Arsenal to do (against Villa) on Sunday. But Newcastle have a bit more about them.

“It just shows how ruthless this league can be sometimes. Newcastle beat Liverpool and then have to go to White Hart Lane, against a Spurs side who have lost just once this season.

“But I think Spurs are getting into that mould at the moment, they’re maybe a tad tired, and they look to be going out with the attitude of making sure they don’t lose the game before they go out to win the game.

“Newcastle’s result was phenomenal, but I do expect Spurs to win this, they are a good side with in-form players. They need to break down the brick wall here after two draws.”
