Newcastle United’s Under 18s were looking to avenge a 3-0 home defeat by Sunderland back in September.

The match was scheduled for an 11am kick-off on Saturday morning but rain and gusts of winds of up to 80mph have put paid to that game, as well as a number of local non-league matches, including Whitley Bay’s.

The Newcastle Academy side have endured a poor season so far, with only five wins from their 16 matches.

The only real bright spots have been an unlikely looking double over Manchester United, plus the outstanding form of Lewis McNall.

The 16 year old Geordie striker has hit an impressive 10 goals in as many matches and was promoted to play for the Under 21s last week,

For anybody looking for an omen when it comes to the match against Liverpool, the storm clouds (and winds) are set to die away over Tyneside by Sunday morning.

So calm will descend over St James Park as Sunday progresses…
