Newcastle draw Watford in FA Cup third round

Newcastle United joined in the FA Cup excitement on Monday night.

The third round draw took place at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff with proceedings kicking off at 7pm.

There were 63 possibles for Newcastle to draw, with 20 who have battled through from the lower leagues and non-league, 24 Championship clubs and the other 19 from the Premier League.

The matches will be played between 8 January and 11 January 2016 and every club that progresses to the fourth round will be guaranteed at least £67,500 in prize money.

Hopefully that will will encourage Mike Ashley to allow Steve McClaren to field a suitably strong enough team to avoid yet another embarrassment.

Newcastle United were number 28 and they were the second ball drawn out of the ‘hat’, away to Watford!

A tough looking draw there, as we have already seen with a Premier League defeat at St James Park.

Could have been worse, Sunderland have drawn Arsenal away.
