News this morning that Newcastle United have approached the agent of Steve Mandanda to try and land the goalkeeper in January.
The 30 year old Marseille goalkeeper sees his contract end in June and L’Equipe say that with that contract position, the fee would only be around £4m.
Aston Villa are said to have already made an offer but Steve Mandanda has rejected that out of hand with them looking relegation certainties.
As well as Newcastle, Norwich are also reported by L’Equipe to have been in contact with the keeper’s agent but his first choice is said to be Liverpool, so he wants to see whether they show concrete interest before he considers either Newcastle or Norwich.
Steve Mandanda is an international teammate of Chancel Mbemba for DR Congo and has been first choice at Marseille for nine years now, winning Ligue 1 and regularly playing Champions League football.
Rob Elliot was at fault for Everton’s winner but otherwise kept Newcastle in the game once again with some great stops.
However, despite his form and Karl Darlow’s availability, plus Tim Krul presumably coming back next season to full fitness, Newcastle have been linked with a series of goalkeepers. Suggesting that there may be a bit more to the possibility of interest in signing one – rather than just the usual idle speculation.
