Newcastle 2 Liverpool 0  Sunday 6 December 4pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

George Stainsby:

“Told you, man… Nowt to it. Ahem…”

Nat Seaton:

“For the first time in ages WE WANTED IT MORE THAN THEM.

“It’s a great feeling to win a ‘big’ game – I’m going home smiling, get in!!!”

Notts Toon:

“Unbelievable effort, exactly what has been missing all season.

“Coloccini shouted, got angry and commanded…I put my hands up and say that was completely deserved.

“Wijnaldum, Cisse, Coloccini and Janmaat were all excellent.”

Paul Lyon:

“Champion that!

“Just the reaction we needed from the players. Committed, full of heart, a Newcastle the fans can get behind, long may it continue.”

Leazes Park Ender:

Typical Newcastle. Rubbish for weeks on end and then turn over in-form Liverpool who boast one of Europe’s best coaches in Jurgen Klopp.

“Amid glee from pundits who dislike our football club, today was the perfect answer.

“Wijnaldum the Dutch master, but we need that every week not every six weeks.

So a stay of execution for McClaren. For now. Just 13 points on the board.

“ More hard slog is ahead but we can breathe easier a bit tonight. Only a bit mind.”

Ben Cooper:

“Amazing what a bit of effort can do.

“It was pretty turgid stuff but at least we were better than Liverpool and the referee.

“We needed that win, the trick is to do it again next week.”

Jamie Swan

“Didn’t see it coming before the game, saw nowt but a spanking heading our way – but it was a dogged and deserved 3 points.

“Hard lines on Liverpool’s disallowed goal, but they were fairly poor after all the hype and we grew into it.

“Let’s see it when it’s against one of the so called lesser teams.

“Going to call Steve Mac, Dr Frankenstein from now, on as he has brought the big clumsy beast back to life!

“Back in the mix, let’s hope it’s not another false dawn… Gerrrrrrrin.”
