Michael Owen has given the benefit of his opinion on the Newcastle v Aston Villa clash on Saturday.
Owen thinks that Tottenham were poor in their performance last Sunday but gives credit to Steve McClaren for the timing of his substitutions, with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez scoring the goals that brought victory.
Whether the pair should have been on the pitch from the start is another matter entirely…
Regardless of how the victory was achieved, Michael Owen says that Newcastle not have restored confidence after consecutive wins over Liverpool and Spurs and ‘should make light work’ pf Saturday’s visitors.
As Owen points out, Villa have failed to win any of their 15 Premier League matches and you have to go back 10 years for the last time Aston Villa won at St James Park.
With the up and down nature of Newcastle’s season so far though, the fact that the bookies still offer around even money on a win for United, shows that victory is no certainty.
Hopefully a convincing performance and win will make it three on the bounce and the bookies to lose a few quid on Newcastle.
Michael Owen writing for BetVictor:
“Spurs were disappointing in their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday but all credit to Magpies boss Steve McClaren who made some terrific substitutions at just the right time to leave North London with all three points.
“With confidence restored Newcastle should make light work of an Aston Villa side that haven’t won since their 1-0 defeat of Bournemouth on the opening day of the season and are winless in their last 8 trips to St James’ Park.”
