Mark Lawrenson has been looking ahead to Newcastle’s match with Aston Villa.
With Villa already six points below Sunderland and eight away from safety, he thinks that shortly they ‘could’ be cut adrift.
Mark Lawrenson thinks that Newcastle will win and has predicted a 2-0 victory for the Magpies.
However, he says that ‘you never know’ with Newcastle United and ‘sometimes they just don’t turn up’.
A massive game for both clubs as if United make it three wins in a row then that will give them massive confidence moving forward after Christmas, as well of course as lifting us that little bit more away from the relegation zone.
However, things are still tight despite these two excellent wins over Liverpool and Tottenham, with Newcastle even potentially falling back into the bottom three if Villa won and other results went the wrong way for United.
As for Aston Villa, Remi Garde has pointed to their next four matches as a potential lifeline, as they face West Ham, Sunderland and Norwich in their following few games.
Mark Lawrenson talking to BBC Sport:
“It looks like Aston Villa could be cut adrift completely shortly – things are that bad for them.
“Newcastle have found some form after their own poor start and could make it three wins in a row on Saturday.
“That is what I think will happen, although you never know with the Magpies because sometimes they just don’t turn up.”
