A media exclusive in Italy today, claims that Newcastle United have made contact with Sassuolo for a January transfer of Sime Vrsaljko.
Vrsaljko plays right-back for the Serie A team, as well as for Croatia, though he can also play left-back and in midfield.
TMW claim that Sassuolo want over 10m Euros (approx £7.5m) to consider selling him in January, which would represent a decent profit considering he joined only 18 months ago for £2.5m from Genoa.
Sime Vrsaljko and his club are having an excellent season and if they win their game in hand, they will move to sixth in Serie A, above AC Milan.
With Italian football struggling financially and Sassuolo one of the minnows of the top division, they will find it hard to hang onto the player if a serious bid comes in from Newcastle or elsewhere.
TMW also report that Arsenal and Juventus have taken a look at the player this season.
The 23 year old defender first made his name at Dinamo Zagreb and played Champions League football from the age of 18.
