Facundo Ferreyra must rank as surely the worst loan signing of all time.

Due to so much other chaos and bizarre decisions at Newcastle United, the signing of the Argentine avoided the kind of attention it deserved.

Newcastle forked out a full season of wages for a player who was then deemed to not even be good enough to play a single minute of football for the club.

Fabricio Coloccini ws widely reported at the time to have recommended his friend Facundo Ferreyra to the club and exactly what Graham Carr was doing in following this advice is anybody’s guess.

The year at Newcastle has contributed a part of a total of 26 months that the Argentine striker went without a league goal.

It was October 2013 when Facundo Ferreyra had last scored and on his return to Shakhtar Donetsk this season he has found games hard to come by.

Since one league start in August, Ferreyra has been confined to only a couple of substitute appearances but was given a chance on the trip to Hoverla on Sunday.

A 6-1 win followed, helping Shakhtar into top position on goal difference from Dynamo Kiev, the pair nine points ahead of the rest.

After 26 months without a league goal, Facundo Ferryra majestically rose to head in the fourth Shakhtar goal – watch it below (it is at 1.05 if you want to go direct to the former Newcastle striker’s goal)
