The north east football writers player of the year awards were presented on Sunday night, with Ayoze getting the north east young player of the year and Daryl Janmaat the main prize.
Having the awards presented only 24 hours after the Crystal Palace debacle was just too bad (timing) to be true.
Daryl Janmaat winning the award after just putting in arguably his worst ever performance for Newcastle, as he was part of a defence which dramatically collapsed…yet again.
Ayoze Perez rather bizarrely taken off at half-time and replaced by Jamaal Lascelles, even though United were 3-1 down at the time.
After the player of the year presentation awards, the following quotes were published on the official club website, whilst separate to that – Daryl Janmaat also gave an impromptu speech on the night which you can watch below:
“It is a big thing for me, I always work hard and when you get something like this back, it is really nice.
“It is great for me and a lot of great names have won this award, like Shearer and Beardsley, some of the biggest names to have played for the Club, so I am really proud of it.”
“I am really proud, last season was my first year here and so to win this award is a big pleasure for me, I’m really happy to have won the award.”
However, when accepting his award on the night, Daryl Janmaat also gave a little impromptu speech of his own, which included:
“It’s a strange situation for me standing here.
“I am proud to win this prize but I’m not proud of the poor results for Newcastle United in 2015.”
