On Thursday we posed the question, should Ayoze Perez or Siem de Jong, or both, play on Sunday against Tottenham.
After much talk throughout last week about potential changes, only Ayoze Perez was left out of the line-up against Liverpool and Siem de Jong brought in for a rare start.
The consensus seems to be that Siem de Jong had a decent 68 minutes on the pitch, helping to link up play and with the added bonus of adding some leadership to the team, encouraging those around him.
With the score still 0-0, Ayoze Perez was the man to replace the former Ajax midfielder.
Within a minute Newcastle took the lead and of course went on to win 2-0, with Ayoze Perez having a lively 20 minutes.
The Newcastle fans have spoken and the breakdown of the supporters voting was:
Play both Siem de Jong and Ayoze Perez – 71%
Play Siem de Jong and leave out Ayoze Perez – 23%
Play Ayoze Perez and leave out Siem de Jong – 6%
A massive vote in favour of Steve McClaren finding space for both of them in his team, which didn’t surprise me as they are both very popular players, with a lot of that based on potential, especially when it comes to Siem de Jong and his stunted career so far on Tyneside.
Interesting to see what team selection the Head Coach does go with on Sunday and whether de Jong or Perez, or both, make it into the starting eleven.
If it was left to the fans then I would guess that Papiss Cisse and Moussa Sissoko would be the players under most threat to accommodate both de Jong and Perez.
