An appeal has been launched to help former Newcastle player and all-time legend, John McNamee.

The no-nonsense defender was a big favourite in his playing days, supporters identifying with his total commitment to the shirt and the club.

John McNamee was part of the squad that succeeded in winning the last trophy Newcastle got their hands on, though he didn’t play in the actual final.

However, he did play in a number of the earlier rounds, including the semi final away leg at Glasgow Rangers, helping United to a valuable clean sheet.

Moving to the present day, sadly John is one of the many thousands to have been affected by the terrible flooding that has hit Cumbria.

What makes it even worse is that this is the second time this has occurred, with the Scotsman once again forced out of his home in Cockermouth.

A Newcastle supporter who moved to Cockermouth 25 years ago and befriended John McNamee, has now started an online fundraising appeal, in order to help raise some cash to help out the Toon legend get his life and house back on track.
