All the info as Newcastle join the FA Cup excitement tonight – Third round draw

Newcastle United join in on Monday night with all the excitement the FA Cup brings.

The third round draw takes place tonight at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff with proceedings kicking off at 7pm.

These days they put on a show around the draw to glitz it up but I bet like me, there will be many thousands of you who will remember there was nothing better than gathering around a transistor radio in the school playground when the FA Cup draws were made on a Monday lunchtime on Radio Two (I think).

The excitement tonight will instead be screened live on TV, with a choice of either BBC2 or BT Sport 2, the latter showing the third round draw before screening the second round tie between Grimsby and Shrewsbury.

There are 63 possibles for Newcastle to draw, with 20 who have battled through from the lower leagues and non-league, 24 Championship clubs and the other 19 from the Premier League.

The matches will be played between 8 January and 11 January 2016 and every club that progresses to the fourth round will be guaranteed at least £67,500 in prize money.

Hopefully that will will encourage Mike Ashley to allow Steve McClaren to field a suitably strong enough team to avoid yet another embarrassment.

Newcastle United are number 28 when the balls start being pulled out.

Other ones to watch out for if we are to have more potential FA Cup humiliation:

38 Sunderland

49 Eastleigh

51 Exeter

62 Salford City or Hartlepool

63 Dagenham & Redbridge or Whitehawk
