A great win for Newcastle over Tottenham and Alan Shearer ruled Gary Lineker as they exchanged ‘banter’.

Dier gave Spurs a first half lead, only for late goals from subs Mitrovic and Perez to give United all three points.

Lineker of course has a big Spurs connection after arguably spending his best days there, whilst there is a rumour going around that Alan Shearer is a bit of a Newcastle fan…

Shearer has had to endure some pretty rubbish times this season, having to go on screen and analyse yet another dismal performance.

Happily for Alan Shearer and all other Newcastle supporters, it was a different story on Sunday afternoon.

Pre-match Shearer used Twitter to say:

“I’m hoping the same Newcastle that turned up last week turn up to play Spurs today!”

Whilst Gary Lineker had gone with:

“Spurs are good these days, and exceedingly well coached.”

Then afterwards Shearer’s instant reaction to the result/performance:

“Great three points. Thoroughly deserved after that second half performance!”

Gary Lineker was magnanimous in defeat and bowed down to the way Newcastle’s head coach had laid out his team/tactics…:

“Steve McClaren is a genius!”

Alan Shearer reflected on Gary Lineker’s pre-match boast and said after the final whistle:

“Newcastle are good these days and exceedingly well coached!”

To which Gary Lineker conceded:

“Your writing is improving as quickly as your team.”

Shame this hadn’t been on the Match of The Day sofas…
