Newcastle United striker Lewis McNall is set to be handed a rapid promotion by Steve McClaren and his coaching team.
The 16 year old local lad has been a sensation for the Under 18s, scoring 10 goals in 10 matches this season.
A hat-trick away at Manchester United put him in the spotlight back in September and in his last appearance for the Under 18s he helped them do the double, scoring one of the goals that beat Man Utd 2-1.
The Under 18s beat Wolves on Saturday but it was without Lewis McNall and we understand he has been training with the Under 21s this past week, with Peter Beardsley and Steve McClaren set to give him his chance today for the reserves.
West Bromwich Albion are the visitors and it is a 1pm kick-off at Whitley Park.
Admission is free for season ticket holders/members, with £3 adults £1 concessions) for non-members.
With the likes of Ivan Toney and Adam Armstrong out on loan to get experience at a higher level, it has also helped create this early opportunity for Lewis McNall to show what he can do at the next step up.
Steve McClaren has already said that Karl Darlow is set to play for the first time since joining the injury list.
However, we understand that Siem de Jong and Yoan Gouffran are also set to get some game time as well for the Under 21s today.
