This week has seen the Andy Carroll tired story of coming back to Newcastle resurface yet again to fill countless headlines, though surely the only one less likely than that, is Ashley Cole coming for a short stay in the city where it all began for Cheryl.

Yet that hasn’t stopped the various media running that story once more, despite there being absolutely nothing to add from the last time, or the one before that.

Ashley Cole was left out of both the Serie A squad at AS Roma and the Champions League one, yet still in the summer Cole said he had no intention of leaving the Rome lifestyle for a club back in England.

He is quite happily seeing out the final year of his Roma contract, well paid and not having to do anything to earn it.

Even if Ashley Cole suddenly decided he wanted to join Newcastle in January, does anybody honestly think that Mike Ashley would pay massive wages to a 35 year old?

This is before we even get to the point of asking if he is still good enough to play in the Premier League, if AS Roma think he doesn’t even deserve a squad number…

Never mind the fact that his desire to play any kind of football seems to have totally disappeared – being content to watch instead of play in Serie A.

Moussa Sissoko burnt Ashley Cole off when he arrived nearly three years ago, I think even Rob Elliot and Aleksandar Mitrovic would give him a run for his money these days.
