It was revealed today that Shola Ameobi and his Bolton Wanderers teammates have not been paid as yet over the whole of November.

The football club have admitted the situation in an official club statement today….

‘Bolton Wanderers Football Club can today, Monday 30 November, confirm that the first team playing squad are yet to receive their wages for the month of November.

This is due to the ongoing situation surrounding the club’s ownership off the field.

Trevor Birch, recently appointed as adviser to the Bolton Wanderers board and owner, said: “This is due to a short-term funding issue. We are working hard behind the scenes and hope to have this resolved in a quick and timely manner and  I will be meeting the players tomorrow to update them.”’

Bolton Wanderers are a massive £172.9m in debt and Birch has been appointed to ease a takeover, from owner Eddie Davies. Davies is reported to be willing to take responsibility for the entire debt, in the hope it will help a new owner to come in as soon as possible.

Trevor Birch said:

“We are working hard behind the scenes and hope to have this resolved in a quick and timely manner and I will be meeting the players tomorrow (on Tuesday) to update them.”

Shola Ameobi signed a short-term contract at the end of October and has made four appearances so far, scoring one goal.

Currently four points adrift at the bottom of the Championship, Bolton are home to Brentford tonight.

You can only wonder at what team morale must be like with not being paid added to the problems that already exist at the club.
