Ten teenagers were offered scholarships at Newcastle United’s Little Benton Academy earlier this year, including striker Lewis McNall.

The young players then joined the Magpies on a full-time basis in July after leaving school in the summer.

Whilst the results of the Academy (Under 18s) this season (W3 D1 L9) have been disappointing, young forward Lewis McNall has been in outstanding form.

Considering how often the Under 18s have been outplayed, it makes McNall’s goalscoring record all the more remarkable.

The 16 year old has scored nine goals in only nine appearances and he will be eligible for the Under 18s for some time yet.

His goalscoring so far this season:

22 August: Wolves 2 Newcastle 3 – McNall 1

5 September: Newcastle 3 Manchester United 2 – McNall 3

10 October: Manchester City 6 Newcastle 1 – McNall 1

24 October: Newcastle 5 Derby 4 – McNall 1

31 October: Newcastle 3 Stoke 2 – McNall 2

7 November: West Brom 2 Newcastle 1 – McNall 1

That 3-2 win in September featured a hat-trick from Lewis McNall, all the goals coming via his head.

Watch those goals below and keep an eye on Callum Smith on the left wing, another player who looks full of promise.

Good luck to McNall, Smith and all the rest of our young players as they try to progress through the ranks.

On the video, go to times 4.30, 8.55 and 9.40 for Lewis McNall’s three goals.
