Rio Ferdinand summed up Newcastle United’s win against Bournemouth in one four letter word – luck.

With statistics like only 32% possession, zero corners to Bournemouth’s 16, plus scoring with your only shot on target (only one other (off target) chance in the whole game) whilst 20 shots peppered Rob Elliot’s goal…

No wonder Rio Ferdinand could only look on in wonder at the final scoreline.

Of course you can make your own luck as well and Ferdinand gave credit to Elliot for his man of the match display and Perez for taking the only chance United had on goal all game.

The former England centre-back says that Newcastle will be ‘buzzing on that journey home’ and I have this mental image of Steve McClaren manically laughing his head off, after he saw his team use up all the luck that has been denied them in recent times, plus a bit more…

The result is everything!

“Newcastle had the luck.

“Lucky that they had Rob Elliot in goal and lucky they had the player who could take the chance when it came his way.

“They worked hard for it of course – don’t get me wrong, but they’ll feel lucky today.

“They will be buzzing on that journey home, they haven’t played well at all but they’ve come away from here with a result.”
