Paul Merson predicts Newcastle v Leicester

Paul Merson thinks that Newcastle United ‘have to come out and have a go’ on Saturday, as the fans will expect it.

Merson thinks that this kind of open game would ‘play into Leicester’s hands’ but that United could/would still get something from the game.

What Newcastle certainly can’t afford to do is to allow Leicester to have the same dominance of possession, corners and chances, that Bournemouth did two weeks ago.

Leicester have scored in every single one of their Premier League matches, with only Manchester City having scored more than their 25 goals.

With three wins and three draws from six away matches and averaging two goals a game over those half dozen matches, no wonder Paul Merson is predicting goals.

The TV pundit sees Leicester’s biggest problem as being they only really start playing once they go behind, something in stark contrast to Newcastle’s usual collapses whenever they concede the first goal.

Paul Merson’s prediction of entertainment and a 2-2 draw is something most Newcastle supporters would accept at this moment in time.

After the lucky win at Bournemouth, a point and a decent display would go some way to building confidence and reassuring fans that the team are capable of moving on from the disastrous start to the season.

Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:

“Leicester are the best team you’ll ever see when they’re 2-0 down, but before 2-0 down they’re not as impressive.

“Newcastle have to come out and have a go, and the fans will expect action, and that plays into Leicester’s hands.

“Newcastle were extremely fortunate against Bournemouth, it could have so easily been a really bad result on the south coast.

“I think there will be goals here, and an entertaining game.”
