Paul Merson predicts Bournemouth v Newcastle

This could be dangerous but I actually find myself agreeing with Paul Merson for once…

The former Arsenal and Middlesbrough player says that Saturday’s Bournemouth v Newcastle clash is a ‘six pointer’, in fact I think it is arguably even more than that.

If United win then they will automatically be out of the relegation zone, a draw or worse and Newcastle will have two more weeks of contemplation in the bottom three, as the latest international break stresses us out even more.

Paul Merson describes it as a ‘massive football match’ and after saying that Newcastle were unlucky that they ‘bumped into Jack Butland’ last weekend, he believes it will be better news this time and predicts a 2-1 win for the visitors.

The player turned pundit believes Newcastle will have a perfect week, as he predicts Sunderland to lose at home to Southampton and Aston Villa to have the same fate against Manchester City.

This set of results would leave Newcastle two points clear of the relegation zone.

However, expecting United to score two goals away from home takes a lot of wishful thinking, when you consider that Newcastle have only scored once in five away games this season and twice in their last 12 aways overall.

Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:

“Now this is a six pointer if ever I saw one! People will say it’s only the start of November but this is a massive football match.

“Newcastle were bang unlucky last week against Stoke, they just bumped into Jack Butland who was on fire.

“Bournemouth’s injuries are taking their toll and, despite playing well in the second half at Southampton, they lost, again.
