Tuesday night was business as usual for Adam Armstrong.

The 18 year old Geordie striker scoring two goals as Coventry beat Barnsley 4-3 to go within one point of the top of the table.

It was the fifth time this season that Adam Armstrong has scored twice in a game, helping him to an overall total so far of 12 goals in 14 appearances.

It could have been even better as international duty with England has meant that the Newcastle loan signing has had to miss a couple of matches.

The two goals last night have now elevated Adam Armstrong to be not only top scorer in League One but also top scorer of all 92 clubs in all four divisions.

Armstrong’s current loan deal runs up to January and so it will be interesting to see how Newcastle play it then.

They have got the option of recalling him any time anyway but the fact that they have blocked the striker from playing in the FA Cup for Coventry so he isn’t cup-tied, suggests they see him as very different to other young players such as Alex Gilliead and Macauley Gillesphey who are also out on loan.

Both of them are being allowed to play for Carlisle in the FA Cup, if selected.

These are the top scorers in each division (Gini Wijnaldum shares that fourth place with a number of other players in the PL):
