Newcastle United seeing red

As we look forward to Newcastle v Leicester, beware of the threat of red cards!

Astonishly, Newcastle have been awarded 12 (TWELVE!) red cards in the time period since there was one given against a Premier League opponent.

It was a remarkable 22 months ago when one of United’s opponents was sent off.

Since 28 January 2014, no opposition player has been sent off in the Premier League against Newcastle.

Even on that day, as well as Norwich having Bradley Johnson sent off, Loic Remy also got red carded in that 0-0 draw.

In the matches where these red cards have been flashed Newcastle have lost them all, apart from the 2-1 win against Chelsea in December 2014 and when Williamson was sent off in August 2014 at Villa – a goalless draw the result that day.

Little comfort that two of them (Dummett v Liverpool and Coloccini v Sunderland) were later rescinded.

These are the red cards Newcastle have had since the last opposition one:

11 May 2014 Shola Ameobi Liverpool 2 Newcastle 1

11 May 2014 Paul Dummett Liverpool 2 Newcastle 1

23 August 2014 Mike Williamson Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

29 November 2014 Moussa Sissoko West Ham 1 Newcastle 0

6 December 2014 Steven Taylor Newcastle 2 Chelsea 1

15 March 2015 Fabricio Coloccini Everton 3 Newcastle 0

13 April 2015 Moussa Sissoko Liverpool 2 Newcastle 0

2 May 2015 Mike Williamson Leicester 3 Newcastle 0

2 May 2015 Daryl Janmaat Leicester 3 Newcastle 0

15 August 2015 Daryl Janmaat Swansea 2 Newcastle 0

29 August 2015 Aleksandar Mitrovic Newcastle 0 Arsenal 1

25 October 2015 Fabricio Coloccini Sunderland 3 Newcastle 0
