Newcastle loan player Macauley Gillesphey has had an up and down time at Carlisle United.
Whereas fellow loan player Alex Gilliead has settled and impressed straight away, the Newcastle defender had had mixed reviews and been in and out of the team.
With Carlisle 2-1 down to Yeovil at home on Saturday, Macauley Gillesphey was brought off the bench and scored a great header (watch it below) to level the match, before Carlisle went on to win 3-2.
It was the Geordie defender’s first ever senior goal and manager Keith Curle was full of praise for Macauley Gillesphey after the game.
“I think it was nice for us all to see Macaulay Gillesphey get his first goal.
“He’s another young player who has been through a mental battering because he felt he hadn’t defended as well as he could in recent weeks.
“Initially he didn’t even want to go into the box when we got the set piece.
“We were screaming at him to get to the back stick and he was beaming when he put it away. Rightly so, because he played a massive part in us getting the three points.”
Another Newcastle loan player, Adam Armstrong, was also in top form this weekend for Coventry City and you can see his latest two goals here, one of them an absolute top quality finish.
