Newcastle have made a move to try and sign Salvatore Sirigu according to reports today in France.

First choice at PSG for the past four seasons, Sirigu has lost his place to summer signing Kevin Trapp and made just one Ligue 1 start this season.

France Football say that they understand both Newcastle and Aston Villa have registered an interest in signing the Italian international keeper in January.

The 28 year old Salvatore Sirigu was widely reported to have been told in the summer by PSG, that they were happy to sell him if a club came in for him that he was interested in himself.

By the end of last season, Sirigu had kept more clean sheets in his four years at PSG than any other Ligue 1 goalkeeper in that time period.

The Italian made that 64 clean sheets in his only appearance so far this season in the league, PSG beating Bastia 2-0 away from home last month.
