The Newcastle away support has been chosen in a top five, just ahead of Leeds United.

However, United’s away fans find themselves ranked just behind Peterborough’s…

The person picking the best away supporters is Adrian Durham, the provocative radio phone-in host who also writes in a similar style for the Mail…and incidentally, is also a Peterborough fan.

Durham picks Manchester United as having the top away support and then Arsenal in second, followed by Peterborough, Newcastle and Leeds.

The sad thing these days is that it is hard to rate the home support of most clubs as the all-seater stadiums have killed off most of the atmosphere, most of the time.

It is no coincidence that relatively, a lot of noise tends to come from the small amount of people in the away section, with most or all of them usually standing.

The Premier League has repeatedly fended off calls to support the introduction of safe standing areas, though north of the border Celtic have been given permission to trial a safe standing section next season.

Adrian Durham’s top five away supports:

5 – Leeds United

4 – Newcastle United

“They travel in numbers, they have a great time despite little reward and for some strange reason they get naked.”

3 – Peterborough

2 – Arsenal

1 – Man Utd

What would be your rankings for the away fans who visit St James Park?
