Wednesday morning brings claims that Cheick Tiote could be on his way to the MLS in January.

According to reports, New England Revolution are interested in signing the midfielder, seeing Tiote as a ‘name’ player which they are lacking at the minute, compared to rival clubs.

The regular season ended last month in the MLS with New England Revolution finishing fifth of 10 in the Eastern Conference.

The Sun report that a January move is in the offing with the MLS club having almost an entirely homegrown squad, they are keen to add the odd foreign star player.

Cheick Tiote has recently been back in the Newcastle team but is struggling to impress.

Due to a series of injuries and poor form, the Newcastle midfielder only started 10 Premier League games this season, although he has started the last four – including the win at Bournemouth a week past Saturday.

The centre of midfield is an area where Newcastle are desperate for new quality players and it is hard to imagine any decent offer being turned down by the club.

Turning 30 in June and one of the club’s biggest earners, Mike Ashley will be desperate to get a return on the player rather than let him run his contract down right until summer 2017.
